CCRF Confronts Kwantlen U. on Anti-Faith Stand
VANCOUVER – The Canadian Council for Religious Freedom has taken issue with a move by Kwantlen University to avoid recognizing a faith-based pro-life student club.
In a letter to Dr. Alan Davis, President and Vice-Chancellor of Kwantlen University, the Chair of the CCRF expressed the organization’s serious concerns regarding the disregard by the university’s student union of religious freedom on the Surrey campus.

The Kwantlen Student Union recently voted to ban the campus pro-life club, stating that the club did not hold views consistent with Kwantlen’s pro-life position.
In his letter, CCRF Chair Father Geoffrey Korz noted that while the CCRF continues “to live in hope that university campuses will provide authentic and free opportunities for democratic debate, we realize that not all individuals share these goals, and that it appears members of your student union are among them,”.
The letter pulled no punches, stating that the religious freedom organization would not hesitate to place Kwantlen on its annual watch list, in light of the school’s “unethical and illegal violation of constitutionally protected religious freedom,” on its campus.
Kwantlen staff were unavailable for immediate comment.
